Wacom Co., Ltd Volito Issue

Hello,

I have an old "Wacom Co., Ltd Volito", tablet, model FT-0405-U0B.

I'm having some issues, with the pressure sensor, click threshold,
which results in "mouse" clicking all the time, and reversed moused
response. My guess is this old version is no longer supported.


Can anyone give-me some ints on how to solve this, or dev/usb debug
tools to build and event mapping file?

There's no reason I'm aware of that the Volito shouldn't work, though
it certainly doesn't get much testing nowdays.

Could you please describe your problem in more detail? Especially what
you mean by "reversed mouse response". Has this problem only recently
occurred, or have you only just started using that particular device
with Linux? Do you know if it works correctly under Windows or OSX
(older hardware can sometimes be flaky)? What distribution (e.g.
Ubuntu 16.04) are you using?

Hi Jason,

Thanks for your reply!

1 -  The reverse mouse response, I mean, I move the pen right, the
mouse pointer moves left, same for up vs down. This behaviour, was
observed in ubuntu 16.04 LTS.

2 - As for, the pen, its activating the mouse click action, as if the
pressure threshold was being crossed systematically. Which makes the
device useless. That was observed in ubuntu 14.04 and 16.04.

3 - The pen button, does not activate "right" mouse click (in ubuntu)
despite the led signalling green when the button is pressed.

4 - I have tested in windows 8.1, with wacom drivers which I've
downloaded from

Apologies for the delay, Mário. The combination of issues together is
odd, especially if the tablet works normally under Windows 8.1. Would
you mind reading through the page at [1] and building its "hid-recorder"
program to capture events from the pen? Once built, you'll want to run
`sudo hid-recorder > volito.log` and choose the device corresponding to
your Volito. At this point, make several passes from left to right
hovering above the tablet until you see a random click or two (following
these steps will help me figure out the reversed pointer movement and
judge if pen wear is the cause of the clicks). Also press the
right-click button once or twice while hovering so I can see what
happens. You can press CTRL+C when done to quit recording and then
attach the log file for review.

Some miscellaneous thoughts:

1 - This almost sounds like the "left-handed orientation" option (see
[2]) has been enabled in the Wacom settings panel. I very much doubt
that's possible though since I don't believe the Volito should be
exposing that option.

2 - Its possible that the pen is worn out and sending phantom click
events to our driver. Although we try to filter those out, if a pen is
especially worn they can still get through.

3 - The X driver has a "tablet PC mode" which will cause the driver to
only send a right-click event when the button is pressed *and* the pen
is in contact with the tablet. It shouldn't be enabled for your device,
but you might try seeing if performing a right-click this way works.

I've tried to find some issues related with the clicking, and this one
sound familiar http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1869450.
I've looked into, the dconf-editor, under
org.gnome.settings-daemon.peripherals.wacom, and there is a mapping
array, for the buttons, maybe its bad mapping ...

my dconf settings are the following:

then, there are two more options:

right corner in the pad, maps to the top left corner in the monitor.

2.1 - the pen sitting still in the pad:

The 'rotation half' option is almost certainly the cause of up/down and
left/right being reversed. This should be 'rotation none' in normal

The button mapping also explains why the right-click doesn't work: it's
been disabled. You might try either of the following mappings:

All the data below looks normal enough, though I think I see why the
random clicks are occuring. The xf86-input-wacom driver has relatively
low pressure threshold for clicks, and your pen every-so-often sends a
value over that threshold while hovering.

To fix this, I'd recommend creating an xorg.conf.d file (see
http://linuxwacom.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Xorg.conf.d) at
"/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/90-wacom-volito.conf" with the following contents:

You'll need to restart the X server for the new configuration to be
applied. If you find that the pen still occasionally sends random clicks
you could try increasing the threshold even further -- 80, 96, or even
higher.
